On November 3, 2026, a master class dedicated to one of the important institutions of civil law – “Time Limits and Limitation Periods in Civil Law” – was held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

The event was organized by Sherzodbek Masadikov, Head of the Department of Civil Law and Private International Law, and Professor Nargiza Raimova, with the aim of strengthening students’ knowledge of the significance of time limits in civil-law relations, the procedure for calculating them, and the role of limitation periods in the judicial protection of violated rights.
At the master class, specialists from the “Umid Advokatlari Hay’ati” law firm – Begnazarova Marjona, Uzakbergenova Gulnaz, and Baymuratova Aysultan – delivered presentations. During the event, students exchanged views on the practical aspects of applying time limits in civil-law relations, correctly determining limitation periods, and protecting rights through judicial proceedings.
During the session, Chapter 11 – “Calculation of Time Limits” and Chapter 12 – “Limitation Periods” of the Civil Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan were comprehensively examined. In particular, the participants discussed the rules for establishing and calculating time limits, general and special limitation periods, the commencement of limitation periods, their suspension and interruption. Furthermore, it was explained that, according to Article 150 of the Civil Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the general limitation period is three years, while special limitation periods may apply to certain categories of claims.

In addition, the discussion focused on the rules for establishing and calculating time limits in civil-law relations under national legislation, the application of limitation periods, and related legal issues. This scientific and practical dialogue aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 16 – “Peace, justice and strong institutions.” It was particularly emphasized that the timely protection of citizens’ rights and legitimate interests, as well as ensuring legal certainty, are important factors of legal stability in the country.

At the conclusion of the event, it was noted that SDG target 16.3 – “to promote the rule of law and ensure equal access to justice” – is closely linked to guaranteeing the restoration of violated rights of every individual. Such master classes contribute to developing an analytical approach among future legal professionals toward resolving civil-law disputes, observing legal time limits, and ensuring the timely protection of violated rights.
