University
The University of World Economy and Diplomacy is a public institution which provides education that serves the interests of foreign policy of Uzbekistan and contributes to the development of society and the individual.
The principal purpose of the University is to provide the nexus between the past, present and future; the criterion against which plans are formulated and major decisions made; the bond which unites the faculty, students, staff, alumni, trustees and an academic community.
UWED, in common with all Uzbek universities, is dedicated to teaching and research. Yet, in pursuing its own distinctive purposes, among these fundamental responsibilities this university places highest priority on programs of instruction and learning in international affairs. UWED provides sufficient diversity in curricular offerings, personal advisement, student services, and extracurricular activities to serve students who vary in ability, experience, and career interests.
To date, UWED has completed the transition to the comprehensive system of education, offering five-year degree programs at the undergraduate and two-year training at graduate levels. The university maintains sufficient depth of scholarship to offer the doctorate in selected academic disciplines.
The system of teaching at UWED is based on a curriculum, the fulfillment of which is a mandatory prerequisite for receiving a higher education diploma for all students. Along with mandatory curriculum, provided it is fulfilled, the student may opt for elective courses or study additional languages. To this end, a versatile network of training facilities - the Library, the Resource Center with over 150 workstations with access to Internet and other ICT tools, 7 computer classes, multimedia and Language labs, etc. - is available to students and faculty.
In meeting its national and public service responsibility, the university encourages faculty, staff and students to apply specialized expertise in ways that contribute to the quality of representation and protection of national interests abroad as well as to societal, economic, cultural and ethical quality of life within the country. When appropriate, UWED develops partnerships with other institutions and agencies, including foreign ones.
The training on the subjects of international relations, political science, global economy, and law is conducted by 3 departments, 22 chair departments, and 8 centers and is given by 16 full professors, more than 70 holders of Doctor or Candidate of Sciences degrees, 55 associate professors and 87 qualified faculty members.
UWED invites students from across the nation and abroad to its programs of study. Admission standards for all degree programs are selective or highly selective. In admitting students the university attaches primary importance to intellectual potential and academic achievements.
The strategic objective of the University today is to explore the prospects of associating itself with the "Bologna process", which opens a widow of opportunity for future reciprocal recognition of diplomas issued by UWED and European universities as well as expands opportunities of exchanging students and faculty. To this end, the University maintains a dialog with potential European partners which would be able and willing to contribute in launching pilot project of introducing programs to be run on the basis of the European academic credits system.
