Uzbek language
The Department was founded under the name of “Uzbek and Russian languages”. In the department Uzbek and Russian languages were taught until 1997. During academic year of 1997-1998 the department was divided into two and “The branch of Russian” was incorporated into “The department of world languages”, “The department of the Uzbek language” was set up as an independent department.
The principal method of education relies on communicative method and principal attention is focused on developing students’ oral and writing skills.
Evolving from the educational experiments of the leading foreign universities, the department has been functioning based on the two-rounded new concepts since the academic year of 1997-1998.
The first round involves the first and second year courses, and the students who finished Russian schools are taught the skills of communicating in Uzbek freely and literary norms of the language.
In the second round teaching Uzbek is based on the specialization of faculties. This involves the following:
- “The Uzbek language” (for less fluent in Uzbek students). All the teachers in the department run classes. In the classes principal attention is focused on teaching the students who are not fluent in speaking freely thus developing their oral and writing skills
- “The Uzbek language” (for more fluent in Uzbek students). All the teachers in the department run classes. The principal objective of the course is to develop the writing and oral literary skills of students who finished Russian schools but can communicate in Uzbek easily.
- “The language of specialty” (For the students of International Law Faculty). In the course language skills related to law and language, their relation to each other, the types of legal language, the language of the laws, the problems of legal terming, and the secrets of legal language are taught.
- “The language of specialty” (For the students of International Relations Faculty). In the course language skills related to diplomatic language, social-political terms, diplomatic speech, working with documents in international relations are taught to students.
- “The language of specialty” (For the students of International Economic Relations Faculty). In the course language skills related to the lexicon of economics, economic terming and working with documents in economic relations are taught to future international economists.
The only rating system, to grade students’ knowledge, has been worked out and it has a great importance in keeping the education in the department at high levels.
Under the aegis of the department there are special educational clubs which work with talented students. In addition, the members of the department closely cooperate with the international NGOs and organizations such as ACCELS and KOICA.
