Roman-german languages

The department has been organised on the base of two 2 departments; World languages and Romanic-German languages according to the resolution of the Scientific Board of the UWED (25 Oktober, 2008, the protocol № 970)

There are 5 following language sections at the department:

• At English language section English is taught as a second foreign language;
• At German language section German is taught as a major and a second foreign language;
• At French language section French is taught as a major and a second foreign language;
• At Spanish language section Spanish is taught as a second foreign language;
• At Italian language section Italian is taught as a second foreign language;

Second foreign languages are taught from the 2nd course till the 2nd semester of the 5th course.

Major foreign languages are taught from the 1st course till the second semester of the 5th course.

The practical course of the language programs are focused on mastering foreign languages to the level of the native language.

The main theme of the scientific direction of the department is "Professionally focused teaching of foreign languages on the base of innovative and modern methodology for training future specialists for the fields of international relations".

Academic classes are equipped by modern computers, audio-video equipments, copying-machine, satellite dish and others.

Each language section has its own library with the modern and original text books, methodical materials, books on regional studies and students’ speciality, video films, etc.

At the present moment more than 700 students from three faculties of the university (bachelor degree and a master degree) are studying at the department.

Huge bank of tests on 5 languages for all levels and all courses have been created by the teachers.

The Section of German Language

German language Department was established in 1993 and has become a part of the Language Teaching Centre of the University. German is taught as the major and the second foreign languages. The basic text-books used at the classes are modern books published by “Hueber” and “Langenschedt”. The Department has been successfully cooperating with international organisations such as; DAAD, Goethe Institut, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, the Bremen University and German Embassy in Tashkent.

From 1996 DAAD Lektors have been working at the department.

There are more than 400 bachelor and master degree students studying currently at the department. The department has its library, reading room, computer facilities and video resources. Moreover, the considerable number of students graduated from the university and who is perfect in German Language have been making their master degrees at German universities or winning variety of scholarships from DAAD or Goethe Institut. Professors and teachers of the department usually develop their professional skills in such countries as; Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Belgium.

At the present time the university is strengthening its cooperation with Germany. As a result of this, new agreement with Goethe Institut and the University of Kassel has been signed. According to it, there extramural courses on upgrading skills of learning German as a foreign language in theory and practice have been organized. Besides, Uzbek-German International seminar on the topic: “European Union as the partner of Uzbekistan” is going to be organized jointly by Bremen University and DAAD programme in the 2-3 April of this year.

The Section of French language

French Language had been taught at the university from 1993 at the French Language Department. From 2008 students learn this language at the French Language section of Romanic-German department. French Language is taught as the major and the second foreign Language.

Modern text-books are used at the Language classes. There is rich library containing original text-books, methodological books, books on regional studies, fiction, etc. Classes are equipped with modern computers audio, video recorders, sattelite dish and other facilities.

French Language Section has actively cooperating with the cultural Center of the French Embassy in Uzbekistan. Thanks to this cooperation different seminars and meetings with the leading specialists from France and Uzbekistan are regularly holding at the Cultural Centre.

Each year a native speaker, specialists from France have been working at the Language center. The Embassy of France regularly supplies the Section with modern text-books and methodological materials on teaching French Language and technical equipments.

Besides that the teachers of the section actively cooperate with Council Representative of Belgium and the French Center on studying the Central-Asian Countries.

Five teachers of the section passed qualification courses at the French Pedagogical Teaching Center. This Center is the member of the International French Language Center of Francophone in Canada.

These kinds of cooperation give great opportunity for improving the teachers` skills and their professional level.

Recently the French embassy made a gift of 200 text-books, fiction of French literature, Panasonic TV set and other technical equipment.

The sections of English, Spanish and Italian languages.

Teaching languages at these sections are conducted by 7 professional experts;

1 Associate Professor, Ph.D., 3 Senior lecturers, 4 teachers and 1 foreign expert from Italy. During 15 years foreign experts from many foreign countries such as; the USA, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Venezuela, Costa Rica и other countries have fruitfully worked at the department.

A lot of textbooks, manuals, work outs, distributing, didactic materials and programs have been created and published by professors and teachers of the department.

At the scientific-methodical seminars held each month the teachers make their presentations on the actual methodological topics of TFL and discuss up-today news in teaching strategy.
