The university of World Economy and Diplomacy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, founded in 1992, as the first University at the territory of Central Asia and which prepares the specialists for international relations, with the purpose of realization of the “Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan about education” and “National Programme of Preparing the cadres” carries out its productive activity in the field of linguistic training of youth. According to the Programme of language teaching the Centre of linguistic education was founded in 1996 the purpose of which is the organisation of teaching of the second languages on the basis of modern pedagogic and informational and communicational technologies. Moreover, the teachers-linguists are assigned to professionally oriented teaching through deep understanding of world integration processes and globalisation.
Teaching of foreign languages is carried out by means of applying the new forms and methods of work into the teaching process, producing and using the textbooks of the new generation, original educational-methodical manuals, hand-outs, vocabularies, hand-books, phrase-books, as well as upon direct participation of teachers-native speakers. At present, the interactive methods of teaching are successfully implemented. In these purposes, the latest pedagogic and information and communication technologies are widely used. During the classes held in two 75-seat language laboratories, three multimedia classes, Resource centre of the university the materials of department video, audio and media techniques in quantity of 450 video cassettes, 353 audio cassettes, more than 100 slides and class presentations are widely used. The use of 4 pieces of satellite antennas installed in auditoriums, library and reading hall gives the opportunity for productive performance of practical classes and organisation of independent work of students. The dedication of quantity of hours for teaching the first foreign language in the volume of 900 hours and for the second language 720 hours meets the international standards of teaching the foreign languages in full and is considered as one of the main important factors for continuous education. In the course of teaching, the greater significance is attached to the use of linguistic-cultural aspect of education, learning the regional geography, culture, literature of the country the language of which is being learned, business language and correspondence, business ethics, sharpening the skills of conducting the international arrangements using the language, work with press, work with special literature, as well as to teaching the theory and practice of translation, problems of intercultural communication for reaching the full acquirement of the language by students.
The educational-methodical council, and also the united scientific-theoretical and scientific-methodical seminars on philological sciences and pedagogical problems of teaching the languages are functioning under the Centre of linguistic education. The common complex topic of scientific-research and educational-methodical work of teachers of the Centre of linguistic education is: “Professionally-oriented teaching of the languages on the basis of innovative methods in the course of preparing the specialists for foreign relations”.
At the heart of the abovementioned activity of the teachers there is a goal of teaching to future specialists for foreign political and foreign economic relations the language competence as the priority part of his professional competence. With a view of developing the theory and practice of teaching of foreign languages, and also exchange of experience with linguists of analogous republican and foreign higher educational institutions within the framework of the Centre of linguistic education of UWED it is annually held the scientific-practical conference “Foreign languages in preparing the cadres for foreign political and foreign economic relations”, the materials of which are published in the form of the collection of papers and thesis.
International relations
The representatives of international organisations as DAAD ( Germany ), ALYANS (France), KOICA ( South Korea ), JAICA ( Japan ) and also the representative of the Embassy of India in Uzbekistan teach at the language departments. These representative offices render the assistance in supplying the departments with training-methodical literature, technical means of teaching, and also in providing the educational grants and scholarships.
The Centre of linguistic education jointly with the department of international relations of UWED regularly arranges the meetings with representatives of diplomatic bodies, accredited in the Republic of Uzbekistan , representatives of international organisations and with the members of delegations visiting our country. “The day of language” is held annually with attendance of foreign guests which is devoted to the culture and art of the nation, the language of which is taught to the students of UWED.
